NHC volunteer efforts work to bring people together in service of our community. North Hills Cares manages two significant volunteer intensive projects each year and offers additional support to other activities as they arise. Come volunteer with us!
Free Summer Lunch Program
This year, North Hills Cares’ Free Summer Lunch Program runs from June 3rd – August 16th, 2024. To date, we have served more than 40,000 meals to kids 18 and under in our community, and we are looking forward to watching this number grow! This program is fully staffed by volunteers and a small number of student interns. Volunteer shifts are typically weekday mornings. In recent years, the executive board has selected a few college interns to take on more responsibility and a leadership role within the lunch program. Interns will have longer, regularly scheduled shifts. Our award-winning program depends on amazing volunteers like YOU. Thank you for all that you do.
A Community of Music
A Community of Music (CoM) is our annual, two-day event put on in early December at The Block Northway where we showcase local school ensembles and children’s music programs in Northern Pittsburgh and provide free, fun, holiday festivities for children and their families. During both days of the event, we ask our community members to bring non-perishable food items to “Fill the Sleigh” with donations for local food pantries/food drives. We are proud to support local organizations and initiatives dedicated to feeding families right here in our own neighborhoods. This is our largest fundraising event of each year, and we need all hands on deck to succeed in making it amazing. We are grateful for the continued support from our CoM volunteers over the years who bring the magic and show us what the holidays are really about.
